Where to Get Materials, and Sword Stats
Crafting this sword can take a while when you don't know where to get the materials. This tutorial should help!
Crafting the Terra Blade is possible on PC, Console, and Mobile versions of Terraria. Making a Terra Blade requires you to keep some of the items you'll find from your adventures and meld them all into this one powerful sword. Use of other worlds may be necessary if you've sold one, but all parts are available in all worlds you make. This Guide will teach you how to make all the various swords you need in order to get a Terra Blade.
Players who are earlier in a game should still make some use of this tutorial, despite it being for an end-game weapon, because some of the swords are easily acquired pre-Hardmode and deal significant damage when compared to normal crafted weapons. You need a lot of weaponry (8 total swords) to make one, all combined to make one of the best weapons in Terraria, while being available before the Moon Lord fight. Here are the weapons we'll learn to craft, with links to help you get to the swords you need. Click them to jump to that section of the tutorial:
Crafting Path for Terra Blade
- Step 1: Craft Night's Edge Sword
- Blade of Grass
- Blood Butcherer (Crimson World) or Light's Bane (Corruption World)
- Muramasa
- Fiery Greatsword
- Combine at Crimson or Demon Altar to make Night's Edge
- Step 2: Make Excalibur from Hallowed Bars
- Step 3: Make True Excalibur and True Night's Edge using one Broken Hero Sword each
- Step 4: Combine True Excalibur with True Night's Edge to make a Terra Blade
Now that we've established all of the items we need, let's look at them individually, show their stats (for players who are earlier in the game and might use some of these component weapons) and list where to farm all of the ingredients and/or where to find each sword.
Making Night's Edge
Here's how to make a Night's Edge, which is forged at a Demon or Crimson Altar. If you are in Hard Mode and broke all of the altars in your world, you'll need to make another world and take the materials with you in order to craft it. Just make a small world so it's easier to find.

Crafting Materials for Blade of Grass
- Jungle Spores x 12 - Spawn randomly on the ground in the Jungle. Their light lets you see them even in unexplored areas, so long as you're nearby. Each one gives 1-3 Spores.
- Stinger x12 (15 on console/mobile) - Dropped by Hornets and Spiked Slimes in the Jungle.

- 10 Crimtane Bars - Crimtane Ore is dropped by Eye of Cthulhu and Brain of Cthulhu in Crimson Worlds.

- 10 Demonite Bar - Demonite Ore drop from Eye of Cthulhu and Eater of Worlds in Corrupt Worlds.
Material 3: Muramasa

Crafting Materials for Muramasa
- Found in a Golden Chest in the Dungeon
- This is the only among these components that you cannot simply farm the materials to craft. Golden Keys are dropped by enemies in the Dungeon, which is accessible only after Skeletron has been defeated. Each Golden Chest consumes one Key, so farming is essential. Hit the Dungeon slimes, for they have a 100% drop chance, as well break pots and kill other enemies. Explore and unlock the boxes, you are sure to find one so long as you are thorough.

I didn't craft Night's Edge until Hard Mode, as I had no Blade of Grass, yet it's the easiest to obtain! |
Crafting Materials for Fiery Greatsword
- 20 Hellstone Bar - Mine Hellstone Ore in the Underworld - carefully! It will take 60 Hellstone Ore and 20 Obsidian to make these bars, just to help you with the math.
- Hellstone Bars require Obsidian (water makes contact with lava - so drain some to it or use buckets of water you bring) and must be crafted at a Hellforge. You can mine those with a pickaxe to take them home.
- The sword itself is crafted at a normal Iron/Lead Anvil.

- As stated before, craft this at a Demon or Crimson Altar, depending on your world. If doing this in Hard Mode and all are destroyed, make another world (small) and head to the Corruption/Crimson and use one of the Altars.
This is the final component of the Terra Blade that we can make pre-Hardmode. Now, on to those components for when you are ready:
Hard Mode Components for Terra Blade
Farming Broken Hero Swords is a key step in crafting a Terra Blade
Notice: Mechanical Bosses must be defeated in order to progress in your crafting. Hallowed Bars only drop from them, and it unlocks the possibility of Solar Eclipses during the day (they can be triggered manually from tablets dropped by creatures in the Jungle Temple after defeating Plantera). On PC, the defeat of all three Mechanical Bosses is required for Mothron, a Solar Eclipse Enemy, to drop the Broken Hero Sword (which you need two of) for True Excalibur and True Night's Edge. For Console/Mobile, Frankensteins and Swamp Things have a low chance to drop them (and you need 3 Broken Hero Swords). Use a Battle Potion and/or Water Candle to increase spawn rates and thus give yourself more chances at a good drop. This isn't a bad idea so long as you can easily handle the Solar Eclipse Event.
True Night's Edge and True Excalibur
We have a Night's Edge, now we need an Excalibur and to turn both of them into their 'True' forms, greatly increasing their power.

Making True Night's Edge

Once we have both True Night's Edge and True Excalibur, we can immediately make a Terra Blade!

At point blank range, the blade can double hit with both projectile and blade damage. |
A Legendary Terra Blade is worth the cost of Reforging and is one of the best weapons in Terraria, though that is debatable. Thankfully, costs for normal/lightly enchanted blades are more in the 10-20g per try range.
Doing testing of the Terra Blade's projectile hits. You can see dummy number 2 was double hit - once by the projectile, and then the blade itself. This only applies at point blank range. Dummy #1 was hit from behind due to the blade's size and arc. You can see that the bolt disappears after hitting the third dummy.
