A free scavenger hunt joins the Season of the Force Star Wars celebration at Disneyland – DePaoli on DeParks (2024)

Season of the Force has returned to Disneyland celebrating all things Star Wars. In addition to limited time merchandise and food, the return of Hyperspace Mountain, new journeys and characters added to Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, and more, guests can also take part in a free scavenger hunt entitled Seek and Find.

The story goes that during the reign of the Galactic Empire, the Rebel Alliance set up a makeshift way-stop on Batuu. To avoid detection, they devised a code system using letters inscribed on old supply cylinders, which were hidden among junk piles, scrapyards and other locations. The letters formed a word which was given to a trusted contact. Today, the Resistance continues to use these coded cylinders to test the skill of new recruits.

So, how can you take part and join the Resistance? It starts by heading to the Star Trader shop in Tomorrowland to pick up your free map. You then need to head to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to find the six coded cylinders throughout Black Spire Outpost.

When I first began searching, I was looking for large cylinders like the ones typically seen throughout Batuu. Don’t make the same mistake as me. Instead, keep your eye out for small cylinders closer to the size of a soda can. Numbered locations on the map will give you a general idea of where to look.

Once you find a cylinder, recreate the symbol in one of the six empty boxes on your map. It is certainly helpful if you have a pen or pencil with you to do this. I did not, so I ended up taking photos of the cylinders instead. It would admittedly be easier to decode later if you drew them on the map. If you don’t have a pen with you, Star Trader conveniently sells pens.

Once you’ve found all six symbols, you need to return to Tomorrowland and go on another hunt for six decoder signs. You then use the symbols you found to translate to letters and decipher the message using the corresponding color-coded blocks.

If this sounds like a lot of steps, it is. I personally enjoy other scavenger hunts available throughout the year, like Eggstravaganza and Pluto’s Pumpkin Pursuit. But Season of the Force Seek and Find was a bit frustrating for me.

The need to hop back and forth between Tomorrowland and Galaxy’s Edge felt unnecessary. The maps certainly feel “in world” and could have easily been distributed in Galaxy’s Edge. I believe the entire game could have taken place in Galaxy’s Edge and been more fun. I think the only reason it’s spread out is so that Season of the Force feels more like a parkwide celebration.

Additionally, the decoder signs were more complicated than they needed to be. It appears there is random nonsense on the signs just so it’s not too easy. But what looks like a math problem, really isn’t. I’ll give you a hint. Just ignore the middle columns altogether.

Once you’ve accomplished the mission and decoded the message, you return to Star Trader to show your completed map and receive a prize. The prize is a Season of the Force character trading card with the Aurebesh alphabet on the back. Different character cards will be released throughout Season of the Force. If you’re a die-hard Star Wars fan, you might want to collect them all.

If you’re a frequent Disneyland Resort visitor, the scavenger hunt may be something worth checking out if you’re a big Star Wars fan or simply looking for something new to do. As I mentioned, I prefer some of the other scavenger hunts the park has during the holidays. But those come with a cost. The major benefit of Season of the Force Seek and Find is that it’s free to participate.

But even if Seek and Find isn’t the greatest offering, there’s still plenty to do during Season of the Force. I’m particularly excited about the Fire of the Rising Moons fireworks show seen and heard for the first time from Galaxy’s Edge. I unfortunately wasn’t able to check it out due to poor weather conditions during my visit. But I love the concept of taking an already existing Disneyland fireworks show and adding fitting Star Wars music to it.
